Botulinum Toxin

What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum toxin (trade name Botox, Azzalure, Bocouture) is a powerful neurotoxin, which when injected into specific muscles temporarily blocks the nerve signals to that muscle & reduces movement. Today botulinum toxin has many uses within medicine & anti-aging including the treatment of muscle spasms, excessive sweating & in facial muscles to reduce the appearance & onset of lines and wrinkles.

Where can this be used?
Treatments are often used for the following areas: the forehead, in between the brows, crows feet, bunny lines, smoker’s lines, chin, brow lifting, underarms, jawline, gummy smile

How long does it take to work?
The effects can start to appear from the third day following injection into the specific muscles. It can take 7-14 days for the full reduction in muscle movement to occur, any reviews or additional treatment should not be carried out by your practitioner before this in order to reduce the risk of over-treatment.

How long will it last?
The results from treatments vary between individuals. On a cellular level, the toxin has completely disappeared from the muscles after 12 weeks. Movement in the muscles will slowly begin to return before this 12 week mark, once completely worn off you can expect all previous movement, lines and wrinkles to return. Repeat treatments are required to maintain reduced movement & over time any lines & wrinkles will become less severe due to the muscle shrinking.

Dermal Fillers for Cheeks

What is Cheek Filler?
Cheek Filler is when we place a higher density dermal filler in the cheek to lift and add volume. We can also contour the cheeks to create high arching defined cheek bones.

How does it work?
We inject the cheek filler in to place using a combination of the needle or micro cannula technique depending on the look you are trying to achieve. We use a slightly thicker dermal filler to mimic the appearance of bone. The dermal filler draws water to the area and gives structure and volume to the cheek bones.
It can also be used to enhance your side profile.

Are there any side effects?
Cheek fillers are generally a safe procedure and one of the less painful procedures. As with any injectable treatment there is always a small element of bruising and swelling at the injection site.
This is short lived and usually settles within the first 48 hours.

How do Dermal Fillers work?
Dermal fillers contain a glycoprotein called Hyalauronic Acid. This is a naturally occurring product which draws water to the area. When injected in to the lips it can be used to add volume but also enhance the shape. In the lip injections we use softer filler and it lasts on average 9-12 months.

How Long Does The Treatment Take?
The time depends on the procedure.

Are there any side effects?
As with any injectable it is normal to expect some element of swelling and bruising. This usually lasts around 48 hours and settles down within the first week. You can help speed this up by using ice packs and it settles down quite quickly.

Under Eye Filler/ Tear Trough Filler (coming soon)

What is Tear Trough Filler
Tear Trough filler is a treatment where we place dermal filler in the under eye area to lift and add volume to this area. This is a good treatment for sunken hollow eyes and can make it look brighter. It can make your appearance look less tired and more refreshed.
It can also add lost volume to the mid face. A great treatment for dark circles under the eyes.

How is the treatment administered?
For this treatment we almost always use a micro cannula technique. This is an advanced aesthetic procedure and so it is important for it to be carried out by a professional aesthetician.
The procedure itself takes around 15 minutes and the results last 9-12 months.

Are there any side effects?
This is a safe procedure but it is important to remember with any injectable treatment there is always a risk of swelling and bruising. We minimise this by using a microcannula technique which only has one entry point on each cheek.

Hay fever Injection

Should I have the Hay fever Injection?
If you suffer from severe hay fever symptoms such as watery/itchy/red eyes, nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose. If your anti-histamine tablets, eye drops and nose sprays are not improving your allergy symptoms and you are only getting limited relief from your usual remedies. If you want to gain back your lifestyle with enhanced protection from the physical symptoms of hay fever that disrupt your daily life and work. No longer available on the NHS, the private Hay fever Injection (Kenalog 40mg) can provide patients with seasonal relief.

When is the best time to have the injection?
It can be given at any time during the season once symptoms have started. However, patients who suffer every year with Hay fever may choose to have the injection just before their symptoms arise.

Where is it Injected?
The treatment, which aims to suppress inflammatory and allergic disorders such as seasonal allergies (commonly called Hay Fever) and allergic rhinitis, an intramuscular injection is typically provided into the large muscles of the buttock.

How quickly does it start to work?
Most patients are safe to drive, return to work and go about their daily routine immediately following treatment.
The area where treatment is applied may be sensitive for the first hour and may take 24 hours to recover.
After administration, results can develop anywhere from 1 to 72 hours.

How long does it last?
The Hay fever Injection is not a cure, but seeks to minimise symptoms and provide seasonal relief typically for 2-6 months.

What if the injection fails to work?
The effect of Treatment can vary from person to person, as each patient has their own immune response. No treatment is guaranteed. However, we will work with you to find the best solution.
A second dose may be required for larger clients whose symptoms were severe at the time of their appointment. It may take much longer for them to receive the maximum effect of the injection.
If a patient has a heavier body weight, they may require a larger dose of 80mg per patient per season to ease their symptoms.
